Where do I go when I want a Little Green…Ireland of Course!

“When laws can stop the blades of grass from growin’ as they grow,
And when the leaves in summer-time their color dare not show,
Then I will change the color too I wear in my caubeen,  But till that day, please God, I’ll stick to the Wearin’ o’ the Green.”
— Traditional Irish Song

On this snowy day where not a bit of green can be seen, I know it’s out there, waiting for Spring’s grand return. I think of my trip to Ireland and recall all the green of the Emerald Island…an incredibly appropriate name.

“Hills as green as emeralds, cover the countryside,
Lakes as blue as sapphires are Ireland’s special pride,
And rivers that shine like silver make Ireland look so fair,
But the friendliness of her people is the richest treasure there.”  ~ Bea Sager

The flora of Ireland must be the most lush I have ever seen. Window boxes, flowering shrubs, hanging baskets, roadside wildflowers all blooming with such stunning color.

“Geographically, Ireland is a medium-sized rural island that is slowly but steadily being consumed by sheep.” ~ Dave Barry
